About me.

About Me. 2 nd year CPUT Journalism student, with a keen interest in TV broadcasting and a love affair with chocolates and gin! TV Presenter for CTV AND NACTV, former ETV, Smile FM and Good hope FM intern.   Life motto:   A selfie a day keeps the doctor away!    News has always been the prime factor of my career, I knew I had a chance at this journalism career when I entered the ETV building which was then in Kloof Street, as a job shadow student under the guidance of Journalist Lance Witten.  I’ll never forget the day. Witten was scheduled to go on air at 13:15 to read his sport bulletin, it was my 5 th day shadowing him, he grabbed my hand and asked me ‘would you like to go see where I read the bulletin from?” An overly excited 17 year old me smiled so widely that I yelled YES at the top of my lungs (one would swear Lance asked me to marry him that day!) We walked down the stairs so fast (Lance was late, he had to be in his anc...

Lockdown chronicles.

South Africa is still under lockdown but on level 3 with some of its restrictions lifted.  Of course not everyone is happy about the lockdown, but what can we do?! We  have to save lives and in order to do that, we have to remain at home where possible.  I took to the street to find out what some South Africans thought of the lockdown, and what have they been up to during these unprecedented times. Enjoy.

I'm seriously missing University so much :(

Lockdown, but definitely not out! South Africa is still under lockdown, with some restrictions lifted. Millions of people have now gone back to work, Universities are still closed unfortunately, which means many of us students have had to adapt to online learning, which is honesty not as glamorous as it may seem. It's been 4 weeks now, that I have been doing online learning from my home, its not been easy, its quite draining and can literally take up so much of your time if you do not plan properly. When week 1 of the online learning commenced, my anxiety levels were through the the roof, I was not in a space where my thoughts were positive because I'm usually a very structured person, so this online learning way of life was something new to me because I did not know what to expect, or how my mental health will be effected. Then the assignments started pouring in!!! Now, I'm all for assignments because they literally give you a sense of what t...

Knowledge is Power, always!

Knowledge is power and news provides that knowledge. By Lisalee Solomons. Learning to know the know. Writing a review of any sort can be quite tricky, yet tons of fun if that is your passion of course. It’s not always every reader   or listener that will listen or agree with what you have to say, but it comes with the territory, some readers might dislike you for what you write, whilst others will simply enjoy your pieces because they give balance and curiosity. One just has to try and understand what it is that your audience actually enjoys reading about, in this instance its food! Brent Meersman, who’s a well-known Cape Town based author, writer, journalist and reviewer has had his fair share of backlash and praise for the pieces his written about. His accomplished publishing his own novel, reviewed more than 200 shows for the Mail & Guardian as their theatre critic, given book reviews and even covered some politics, to name a few. But his media career took a sl...

It's getting HOT in here🔥🔥🔥 !

Is it just me or have we been seeing a lot of these beauties around Cape Town. By Lisalee Solomons. Picture taken by LisaleeSolomons at the Roeland Street Fire Station in Cape Town. Summer in Cape Town has officially reached its exiting point (for which I am so glad for), So I think its only fair that I show abit of appreciation for the many men and females that courageously sacrificed their life to put out blazing fires in and around Cape Town during the very hot days we experienced during the heatwave period from December to mid March, sometimes having to work right through the night because of very strong winds that interrupt them from doing their works so diligently. Now, its not everyday where you'll find people from the public offering up their time to go and spend some time at a local fire station, so when the opportunity arose for me to go and see what life is like at Roeland Street fire station, not only was I super excited to see t...

Picture supplied from Kim's Instagram account @KimKardashian  If there is one celebrity that I can spend my whole entire day watching, it's this woman right here. Kim Kardashian West really has made a name for herself from literally having no talent at all to becoming one of the highest paid reality stars of our time. She's done literally everything under the sun to gain media attention and to keep the bucks coming in, but what surprises me the most about her is how she turned what could have ruined her whole entire career, into something this big and to still stay so relevant. Yep, I'm talking about the infamous sex tape with ex boyfriend Ray J. Rumor has it that she does not get any royalties from the tape (between you and I,we know thats a lie), and that her mom Kris Jenner was the one that actually leaked the tape. Either way, sex sells and Kim Kardashian West cashed in on the tape real big, so big that she even managed to make her entire family household na...

The glorified selfie.

Image
Picture taken inside the recording studio @NACTV You know, I'll never quite understand what it is about taking a selfie anytime of the day that just sets ones mod. I am predominately known as the "selfie queen" and I make absolutely no excuse for it, I will not deny it,I will never correct you, hell, I might even ask you too be in my selfie! You see, the thing about owning a really good camera or cellphone is the fact that it takes beautiful pictures. Now, one might argue that there is more to life than just taking a random picture or a random selfie, and quite frankly you are 100% correct, but honestly speaking, what lasts longer than a picture? and a picture says a thousand words right?!  Many people around the word hate taking pictures, they cant stand looking into a camera lens, and I totally respect that. What I'm not going to do is beg you to be in my selfie, I will respect the fact that you dont like taking pictures, but what I'm not go...
